“Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly. Gather the people, consecrate the assembly; bring together the elders, gather the children, those nursing at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his room and the bride her chamber. Let the priests, who minister before the Lord, weep between the portico and the altar. Let them say, ‘Spare your people, Lord. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, “Where is their God?”’” – Joel 2:15-17
There is power when an individual fasts. There is exponential transformative power when a corporate fast is declared. In this passage, God is instructing every person to come together and seek God. It is also a call to intercession particularly for spiritual leadership. As we together fast and allow ourselves to be broken over our sin, lift our voices in intercession, and ask God for our inheritance, He will glorify His name in and through us.
Prayer: Lord, I love You. You are holy. God I pray that You would give us the grace to humble ourselves and repent that we may walk closer with You. Help us to represent You well. Show Yourself strong and make Your name great in us. Amen.
