“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” – James 4:8-10
God offers an invitation. He wants to get close to you but waits for you to get serious about getting close to Him. He gave us His Word, His Son, and His Holy Spirit – He did all the heavy lifting and now waits to see if we are serious about seeking Him.
God tells us in Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Notice there is a promise – that we will find Him, but that is based on a condition – that we seek Him with ALL of our heart.
What James is describing here is that sin and worldly desires separate us from God. Many times we love our sin more than God – this is called idolatry. We must repent, FAST, and humble ourselves to align with Jesus and put away the sin that so easily ensnares us.
Gods ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9), and the only way to get closer to His level, is to get down on our faces in repentance, prayer, and worship.
Jesus, I love You. Thank You for today. Holy Spirit I ask that You speak to me about the things in my life that hurt your heart. Help me to humble myself, repent of my sin, and heal my double-mindedness. Lord I bring down the strongholds of pride and rebellion in my life. Help me to be more like You. I want to draw closer. Help me do that in Jesus name. Thank You for loving me and for inviting me closer. Amen
