Day 15 of 21 – The Rock, My Rock

SCRIPTURES: This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success (Joshua 1:8).

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves (James 1:22).

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock (Matthew 7:24-25).

OBSERVATION: God has given us His word to guide us, grow us, and bless us so that we may be a blessing to others. We cannot pick and choose, however. God reminds Joshua that he is to do ALL that God told Moses to write down. We know that it is impossible, but with the grace that Jesus gives to us, we can grow into His standard. God desires us to be successful, but He will only bless that which is done in faith and obedience.

When we hear and even know God’s word but choose not to do it, we deceive ourselves. We become more proud and religious, and less sensitive to the Holy Spirit. On the other hand, when we listen to Jesus and strive to obey, He will give us grace, success, and a house or legacy that can withstand any storm.

APPLICATION: We must read the word and ask the Holy Spirit to help us understand it so that we can know the word and obey it. We must then exercise our faith by putting into practice what God reveals, asking God to help us by His Spirit. Then we must continue doing these things. If we do, we will see our spiritual maturity grow and our lives produce godly fruit. We must: Read, Pray, Obey, and Repeat.

PRAYER: Lord, I love You. Thank You for today. You are greater than anything that I could ever encounter. I put my trust in You. I ask that You help me to discipline myself in Your word and in prayer. Help me to understand what You are saying to me and to obey what You tell me to do. I want to hear Your word, understand it, and do it so that I may live a life that pleases You and gives You glory. Amen.

PRAYER POINTS:

  • Repent for any pride and bring down the strongholds of pride and rebellion in your life.
  • Ask the Lord for wisdom and humility.
  • Pray for your pastors and your church.
