Scripture:
Isaiah 6:1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up…
Observation:
Isaiah was both priest and prophet. Something transformed his ministry in chapter 6. He received his commissioning from God. He went from preaching righteousness to prophesying about the Messiah. How did this happen? We get a clue in verse 1.
King Uzziah did well when he was young. He sought the Lord and God prospered him and the nation. Israel grew in military and economic might. When Uzziah got older, however, he became proud. After a victory in battle, Uzziah entered the temple to offer incense to God. He was a king, not a priest. This was a serious breach of protocol. Uzziah was now full of religious pride.
Application:
Isaiah 6:1 reveals that God shows Himself powerful and glorious where there is humility. When King Uzziah (religious pride) died, there was a revelation of the King of Heaven. This is also true in our lives. When we want to be king and lord of our lives, there will be little to no revelation of God and you will slowly start to loose your hope and purpose.
God will not compete for the throne in our lives. Either we will humble ourselves and let God rule and reign, or we can be on the throne through pride and religion. It did not end well for Uzziah, it will not end well for us either.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are King and I am not. I ask forgiveness for my pride, rebellion, and stubbornness. Help me to humble myself and to get off the throne in my life. Take Your rightful place that I may see You and allow You to work in and through me. Keep me from self-deception and religion that I may hear Your work and partner with You in Your work through my life. Amen.
