Scripture:
John 18:38 Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?”
John 8:31-32 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth
Observation:
In John 18, Jesus is on trial and standing before Pilate. In this verse, Pilate is not asking Jesus a question, he is making a statement. This is a statement that many in our generation are making. There are no absolutes, and everything is relative. Pilate should have asked Jesus, then maybe he would have finally learned the answer.
Truth is not our perception of reality, but God’s. When we stand before Him at the judgement, His truth will not be measured by our reality. Our reality will be measured by His truth.
Application:
Jesus is the Truth, the Way, and the Life (John 14:6)! When we get into God’s word, His word gets into us. We then get to know who God is, by what He reveals about Himself and start to see how His principles play out in the real world. This is what it means to be His disciple. One who disciplines themselves in the truth.
It is only with the truth that we can battle and defend against the deception that runs rampant in our world. Just as the Roman belt or girdle served as a harness that all the other pieces of armor attached to, so we must be grounded in the truth if we are to destroy the lies of the enemy.
John 17:17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
Prayer:
Lord, I love You. Thank You for today. Help me to know You more that I may walk in the truth. Help me to be a doer of Your word and not just a hearer. I don’t want to be deceived and I don’t want to deceive myself. Cleanse me and make Your word come alive. Help me to identify and tear down the lies of the enemy in my life. Thank You for Your truth that holds me together. Amen.
