Scripture: “My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:30).
Observation: So… does this mean that when we follow Jesus, we hit the easy button on our lives? No. What it does mean is that sin twists and perverts everything making productivity difficult or even impossible. In the Garden of Eden, Adam WORKED – but after the Fall, he LABORED. Sin is a labor camp.
Make no mistake, following Jesus is full of work (Ephesians 2:10), challenges and difficulty, but in comparison to the brokenness and devastation of sin the yoke of the Lord is easy, and His burdens are light.
Application: To put this concept into practice, we must repent – to change how we see God, our sin, and our purpose. Sin may be fun for a season but the enemy is out to kill you and torture you in the process (John 10:10). God’s way and plans are always better for us in both the short and long run.
Prayer: Jesus, I love You and thank You for today. Your ways and thoughts are higher and greater than mine. Help me to see thing Your way. I am weary from doing things in my own strength and according to my understanding. God, please lead me that I may follow You. I give You my burdens and choose to take the ones You give me. I trust You. I trust in Your goodness, kindness, love, and mercy. Amen.
