Day 7 of 21: The Fruit of Our Lips

Romans 4:17 …God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

God created simply by speaking. He made us in His image and has given us power in our words as well. What we say can either build up or destroy. This is why we will have to give an account for idle or wasted words (Matthew 12:36).

One thing I would like to point out, however, is that words are not fruit – they are seeds. Seeds don’t automatically and instantly produce fruit. In the same way, our word won’t instantly produce results right away. I‘m not talking about name-it-an-claim-it superstition that amounts to witchcraft and manipulation, I am talking about declaring God’s word into situations so that God’s will can be done in time.

Faith is not a feeling or simply belief. It is a deep-seated trust that results in corresponding action. I don’t have to work up the courage to turn on the lights. I just do it. Faith that pleases God is a trust in His word that is evident by corresponding alignment and obedience (James 2:14-26) – especially when it comes to our words. This is what prophecy is all about. Declaring God’s word in our lives so that we, in time, see God’s Kingdom come and will be done in our world.

We must also realize that we can speak a good word on one side of our mouths, then destroy it with negative talk on the other. This is called being double-minded (James 1:5-7).

1. Become a student of God’s so you can learn what He has already said.
2. Become a person of prayer so you can hear what He is saying.
3. Declare, pray, and repeat God’s word in every situation.
4. Refuse to complain, gossip, or to speak against God’s word – especially the prophecy on your life (1 Timothy 1:18).
5. Wait on the Lord and His timing.
6. Enjoy the fruit of planting God’s word in your life.
7. Plant more of God’s word to produce an orchard of life (Proverbs 3:13-18).

Jesus, I love You. You are holy and the creator of all things. By Your words you created the universe and me. Lord help me to align my heart and my speech with You and Your will for my life. I ask forgiveness for and gossip, negative speech, or words I have spoken against myself or anything You are wanting to do in my life. I repent. Help me to realize the power of my words and to plant seeds of life that I may eat of the fruit of my lips and be satisfied in Your word. Amen.
