Scripture
1 Corinthians 10:21 I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.
Ephesians 5:18-21 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light… And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness.

Observation
We are the temples of the Holy Spirit and like Solomon’s temple, we have many rooms (the child room, the parent room, the employee room, the spouse room, etc.). It is possible to have the lights (truth, obedience, God’s presence, etc.) on in one room but not another. We can have light in the living room but darkness in the bedroom. The enemy has a legal right to anything in our lives that is not submitted to Christ. Demons do not possess anyone. They own nothing and, therefore, cannot own a person. They inhabit darkness in the same way that ants show up when there is food left on the floor, or when cockroaches come up from uncovered sewer drains. Our flesh (sinful nature) is spiritual darkness and is opposed to God. It produces death and decay, and this is what the enemy feeds on.
I once had a large wound on my hand that required stitches. After the stitches were removed, the wound stayed open for another week. There was dead skin all around the wound. I decided to cut off the dead skin and when I woke up the next day, the wound closed and new skin had formed overnight.
.
Application
We need to cut off the dead skin of the flesh that is holding our wounds open and giving the enemy something to feed on. The above verses are the Holy Spirit encouraging His people to turn the light on in every room of their lives. We are to remove the access points of the enemy by drawing near to Jesus. We must ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any darkness dwelling in us. We must confess any sin that is revealed and repent. Then we must ask the Holy Spirit to fill us fresh and to turn the light on in that room.
.
Prayer of Repentance
Jesus, I love You. Thank You for today. I need You, Lord. I repent of choosing the darkness over Your light. I repent for my involvement in the dead works of the flesh. I ask, Holy Spirit, that You shine Your light on my darkness. I repent of (name what He shows you) in Jesus’ name. Fill me with Your Spirit. Let Your word light up these rooms in my soul that I may live for You alone. You are holy. Help me to be holy as You are. Amen.
