Scripture:
Exodus 3:5 Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.
Observation:
The road to glory is often not very glorious. Abraham created Ishmael. Moses killed a man and ran away to the wilderness for 40 years. David was run out of town by his mentor. Even Jesus, the King of Glory Himself, was born in a no-nothing town and grew up in obscurity. God steps down into our brokenness and shame and writes His story of redemption through the story of our lives. He uses the foolish things to confound the wise, the weak things to conquer the strong, and the broken things to put to shame those things that are “put together” by worldly standards. God takes the ordinary dirt of our lives and makes it holy ground.
Glory is not about an experience, but a revelation of who God is and an expression of what He is doing in our lives and world. God’s glory is not about us, but about God and what He’s up to. If we are waiting only for the glory of the mountaintop, we will miss the glory of the valley or the mundane. God is always speaking, always moving – it is only those that quiet themselves and look for Him that millions of little miracles that happen every day. He desires that we grow into spiritual maturity, step by step, and to produce fruit (Galatians 5:22-23). This is what brings Him glory (John 15:8).
Application:
Allow God to step into your life and write His story. Ask Him for eyes to see the grand as well as His small movements in your life. Are you struggling with significance? Do you have skeletons in your closet? Do you feel lost in obscurity? Take heart, this is where God reveals His glory. We must only continually redirect our focus onto Him, asking Him for eyes to see what He’s up to in our lives, and then actually look for Him. The road to glory is not measured in miles and mountaintops, but in moments and next steps as we follow Him wherever He may lead.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for today. I love You. You are good and holy. Let Your holiness be on display in my life and give me eyes to perceive what You are up to in my life. Help me to trust You whether on the mountaintop or the mundane, whether in the valley or the plateau, help me to be still by the waters of Your word, that I would be planted and fruitful for Your glory. Amen.
