Glory: The Discipline of Death (Day 4 – January 22, 2026), P. Adina Kring

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 9:27 I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Observation:

Glory has weight and weight demands capacity. Capacity is not built through moments, it is built through training, discipline, and diet. That’s why this fast isn’t a diet. It’s a death. A diet changes what you eat. Death changes who you are. Fasting is not about shrinking your body. It’s about silencing your flesh. It’s not about control. It’s about surrender. It’s not about willpower. It’s about yielding power. Jesus didn’t call us to convenience. He called us to the cross. And crosses are not symbolic – they are terminal.

If we want to carry glory, we must crucify what competes with it. Paul said, “I discipline my body and bring it into subjection.” Not because the body is evil, but because an undisciplined appetite will eventually disqualify a powerful calling. Jesus said, “Deny yourself. Take up your cross. Follow Me” (Matthew 16:24). That may sound poetic but it’s not. That is a death sentence to self-rule.

Application:

Training means you show up when it’s uncomfortable.

Discipline means you say no when your flesh screams yes.

Diet means you remove what feeds your lower nature so your spirit can grow stronger.

This fast is not about God being impressed. It’s about God being enthroned. If this season is stretching you like it is me, exposing my cravings, revealing all my irritabilities, surfacing resistance – that’s not failure, that’s formation. That’s the flesh losing its grip. You are not just skipping meals. You are confronting idols. You are interrupting habits. You are retraining your appetite. Glory cannot rest on a life ruled by appetite. The weight of God’s presence demands a body, a mind, and a will that are under submission. So don’t quit because it’s hard. Don’t redefine it because it’s uncomfortable. Don’t spiritualize disobedience. Let it die. Because what dies makes room for resurrection glory!

Prayer:

Father, I surrender my appetites to You. Train me where I am weak. Discipline me where I have been indulgent. Purify my desires so I can carry Your glory. I don’t want to be ruled by my flesh. I want to be led by Your Spirit. Let this fast do more than change my schedule. Let it crucify what competes with You. Let it resurrect a deeper hunger for Your presence. I choose death to self so I can live for You. In Jesus name. Amen.
