Realignment (Week 5 of 8)

James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Galatians 5:16 Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

I have noticed lately that I have started walking with a bit of a limp. I just called it swagger, but when other people started noticing it, I decided it was time to go see a chiropractor. After a few intentional presses and pops, I felt relief and could walk and even run much better. A few weeks later, however, the swagger returned. Upon revisiting the chiropractor, I was informed that I need regular realignments if I want the effect to last.

This is what James is saying. We need to live a lifestyle of realignment, of daily repentance, so we aren’t hindered by the swagger of our flesh – inhibiting our ability to run the race that is before us. As we repent and realign the promise is that if we draw near to God regularly, He will draw near to us. This is not just a one-time event. Many of us are realigned at the altar for days or even weeks, but then that old flesh-swagger starts to slowly reappear. We need to be checking in with the Holy Spirit on a daily, moment-by-moment basis, to walk by the Spirit, and to stay in alignment with His purposes for our lives.

Lord, I love You. You are holy and good. I thank You for my life and all that You have done for me. Holy Spirit I ask that You help me to develop a relationship of realignment with You that I may effectively follow where You lead. Show me what drawing near to You looks like in my life. I want You to draw nearer to me. I love You Lord. I ask that as I walk straighter by the Spirit, that I would show more of Your love and grace to others. In Jesus name, amen.
