Release the Captives! (Week 8 of 8)

Scripture:The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, for He has anointed Me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free” (Luke 4:18).

Observation: Freedom is God’s desire for us. Freedom from sin, addiction, disturbing thoughts, in our finances, etc. Jesus paid the price for our freedom, and as we come to Him, He makes us free by the power of the Holly Spirit. “If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36).

Application: We must first come to Jesus and be made free, but we must not grow complacent and satisfied with our own freedom. We are to be light in the darkness to declare release to the captives – to pray and prophesy to our spheres of influence. We are to declare the release of our children, coworkers, friends, and family. We must continually walk with and draw upon the Holy Spirit to reinforce Jesus’ victory in our world.

Prayer: Jesus, I love You and thank You for today. I ask forgiveness for my sins and that You would make me free in every aspect of my life. I declare freedom in my mind, soul, body, relationships, and finances. I ask Holy Spirit that You would fill me and empower me to declare freedom to the captives in my sphere of influence. Give me wisdom, discernment, and boldness to speak the truth in love. Let Your kingdom come and will be done in me and through me today. In Your name I pray, amen.
