Spelunking with the Spirit

Day 2 of 21: January 12, 2024

Scripture
Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Observation
David is not asking God to discover something. He knows that God already knows his heart. What David is asking, is that God would reveal the real condition of his heart. He knows that there is wickedness in his soul that he is oblivious to. David is asking God to reveal his sin and selfish blind-spots. He is effectively saying, “Show me where I’m killing myself and other people. Then show me how to choose life instead.”

Application
This is a prayer we must pray regularly – to ask God to reveal any sin, wickedness, or self-deception. We must also ask Him to give us a strategy and the grace to walk it out.

Prayer
Lord, I love You. Help me to love You more. You know what’s in my heart, and I ask that You would show me anything in me that is hindering my relationship with You. I trust that You will not show me more than I can handle, but I am also not okay with ignorance of my pride, rebellion, self-deception, and sin. Be with me in the process of transformation from who I was to who You are making me to be. Help me to love You and love others better today by Your Spirit. Amen.
