Spiritual Diabetes: Day 3 of 21 (Adina Kring)

Scripture:

John 6:35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.”

Observation:

There are two major signs of diabetes. The first is: Extreme Hunger

Even after you eat, you may still feel very hungry. That’s because your muscles aren’t getting the energy they need from the food; your body’s insulin resistance keeps glucose from entering the muscle and providing energy. Therefore, the muscles and other tissues send a “hunger” message, trying to get more energy into the body.

The second sign of diabetes is: Extreme Thirst

No matter how much you drink, it feels like you’re still dehydrated. Your tissues (such as your muscles) are, in fact, dehydrated when there’s too much glucose (sugar) in your blood. Your body pulls fluid from the tissues to try to dilute the blood and counteract the high glucose, so your tissues will be dehydrated and send the message that you need to drink more. This is also associated with increased urination.

Application:

We all can have a spiritual form of diabetes. Yet Jesus is saying, “I have something that will cure your hunger and your thirst. It’s Me!”

Not only is God Provider for our physical needs, but His Word made flesh satisfies the needs of our souls. As we enter our fast, eat and drink of God’s word. This is the substance that we need to never hunger or thirst again.

Prayer:

Jesus, I love You. Thank You for satisfying my soul. Speak to me through Your word. Saturate me with Your presence. I don’t want spiritual diabetes, I want You. Amen.
