God has called this a year of encounter. The closer we get to His light, the more of our darkness is exposed. God desires that we have a close and mature friendship with Him. This does not happen without humility, the fear of the Lord, and repentance, however. He is holy, and we must be holy and allow Him to purify us as we draw near.
Repentance is at the heart of holiness. It means to see things God’s way, to turn from your sin, and to turn to God. It is a change of mind that results in a change of behavior that leads to a change in the direction of your life. This is why John the Baptist in Matthew 3:2 and Jesus in Matthew: start their respective ministries with this declaration:
“Repent for the kingdom of heaven is near!”
Joel 2:12-13 pleads, “‘Now, therefore,’ says the Lord, ‘Turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.’ So rend your heart, and not your garments; return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness; and He relents from doing harm. Who knows if He will turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind Him – a grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord your God? Blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly” (NKJV).
We are calling for a time of fasting and repentance from Saturday, November 8th, 6 PM to Saturday, November 22nd, 6 PM. Join us in this time of consecration, prayer, and seeking the Lord.
