The Father Speaks the Son

Day 18 of 21: January 28, 2024

Scripture
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Observation
John uses familiar language from Genesis 1:1 and points to Jesus as Creator. It is interesting to note that he doesn’t refer to Jesus by name but gives Him the title “The Word.” When God created in Genesis, He said… and there was. Jesus was the message that the Father was declaring: the Holy Spirit made it happen, and you have the universe as a result.

The Word was with God, and yet one of His names is Immanuel – God with us. The Word has been given to us in the Bible (logos), in the person of Jesus Christ, who explained it to us, and by the Holy Spirit, who has been given so that Jesus may be with us and continue to reveal His word (rhema) to us (John 16:12).

Application
God is with us in His word. Are we in His word so He can be with us in our hearts, minds, souls, and lives? Are we asking the Holy Spirit to come and reveal His word to us? God is with us – are we with Him?

He is everywhere, and yet we are the ones who choose whether He is allowed to be with us. Today, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus to you. You may be surprised when He takes you up on that request.

Prayer
Lord, I love You. Thank You for today. I ask forgiveness for not spending time in Your word and keeping You at an arm’s distance. I want Your word, Your love, truth, and power in my life. Thank You for being with me. Help me to be with You. Amen.
