The Fear of the Lord: Day 2 of 7

SCRIPTURE:

Matthew 7:24-27 Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

James 1:22 Be doers of the word, not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

OBSERVATION: To fear the Lord means to take God’s word seriously, and to actually do what He says. Wisdom builds a life on the solid foundation of obedience to God’s word. Foolishness hears God’s word and disregards it. This leads only to destruction and chaos.

APPLICATION: We must seek God’s word and ask the Holy Spirit to help us walk it out in our lives. To fear the Lord means to walk with Him and recognize our need to follow where He leads.

PRAYER: Father, I love You. You are holy. Thank You for today. Holy Spirit reveal Your will through Your word to me today. Give me the strength to do what You are calling me to do and to follow where You lead. In Jesus’ name, amen.
