The Fear of the Lord: Day 4 of 7

SCRIPTURE:

Psalm 25:14 The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant.

OBSERVATION: Who do you share your secrets with – random acquaintances or close friends? I know a great deal about Thomas Jefferson, but I don’t think about him all that often. It is academic knowledge. I think about my wife, however, daily. I wonder how she is feeling, what she is thinking, or whether she is hungry. Why? Because I love her, I care about her, and her mood and temperament directly affect me.

Tragically, there are many who claim Christianity but have only an academic knowledge of biblical facts about God, without knowing Him personally and intimately. That knowledge doesn’t really affect their lives.

APPLICATION: Just like any relationship, if we want to know more about God, yes, we need to learn about Him through His word, but we must also spend time with Him and talk to Him. We must draw near (James 4:8), eliminate distractions, and spend time getting to know the Lover of Our Souls. When we do, He will start showing you things you’ve never seen or even thought of before. Prioritizing time with God has a name: the fear of the Lord.

PRAYER: Dear Father, I love You. Thank You for today. Holy Spirit help me to prioritize spending time with You. Teach me to fear You that I may know You. I want you to be able to trust me with Your secrets. Share Your heart with me as I draw nearer to You. Amen.
