SCRIPTURE:

Hebrews 12:12-13 Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

OBSERVATION: We are saved by the grace of God, through faith in what He did on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-10). We do not work FOR salvation; we work FROM salvation. I don’t do good works to gain salvation, I am careful to pursue God’s call upon my life because I am saved (2 Corinthians 5:14, Philippians 3:13-14). Paul is saying, “Now that you are saved and are in the Kingdom, act like a child of the King.”

APPLICATION: We must stay in the fear of the Lord to keep from apathy or religious obligation. The fear of the Lord will keep you close to the Father’s heart and give you a desire to do His will. Holy Spirit will then create in you both the want to and the ability to do what God is calling you. to do in order to please Him. It is not a pressing into works, but a pressing into humility and the love of God. It is the fear of the Lord that will keep you in a loving pursuit of His presence, pleasure, and glory.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus. Thank You for today. Thank You for living, dying, resurrecting, praying, and for coming back for me. Help me to seek You with my whole heart. Teach me to honor and fear You that I may love You and do what You are calling me to do. Keep me in the fear of the Lord that I may follow You all my days. Holy Spirit, I ask that You continue to work in me to want and to do what You desire for my life. Amen.
